LESSONS FROM COVID-19: USING DIGITAL CONTENT TO INCREASE DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

While the rapid shift in remote learning has presented institutions with many challenges, it has also created unexpected opportunities to make learning more affordable and accessible to all types of learners. The rapid shift to digital content, for instance, has exposed fault lines in the “traditional” approach, including prohibitive costs, lack of accessibility features, and lack of diverse content – which have, in turn, resulted in decreased engagement.

In the wake of the pandemic, forward-thinking institutions have found success transitioning from older print-focused models to digital solutions that offer a wider range of content at lower costs to students – solving both accessibility and affordability challenges at once. This panel will bring together leaders across the higher education sector to discuss the role of new approaches to content in expanding access and opportunity, particularly for historically underrepresented students, and how to build on these initial successes moving forward.

This webinar is sponsored by BibliU.

WebEx Integration with D2L Now Available
WebEx Integration with D2L Now Available avatar

Video Conference, Online, Home Office, Webinar

Are you ready to host and record your WebEx sessions directly inside your D2L courses? Well, that time is here! The WebEx Integration with D2L is now ready. There is no need to post recording links in your courses, as recordings created within the course will automatically populate in the course when the recording is processed. This is what one faculty member had to say about the integration during the pilot phase:

“I LOVE it! It is nice to have the meetings scheduled where the students can access them directly through D2L instead of having to constantly remind them of the link address. I also like that the recordings automatically populate so that you don’t have to copy them to post. The office hours feature is great too.”

Below are links with videos and instructions on how to setup and use the WebEx Integration. Please contact the Online Learning office with any questions you may have.

Updates from Honorlock
Updates from Honorlock avatar

As we quickly approach fall finals, we wanted to share some reminders with you to ensure a smooth testing experience for your students.

Access Codes: It is important that you do NOT edit the Access Code that’s set when you enable an assessment with Honorlock.  Editing or removing the access code could prevent students from entering the assessment or it could allow them to enter the assessment without proctoring. For additional information about access codes, please refer to this article.

Support: Honorlock support is available 24/7/365 for you and your students. Students are encouraged to reach out to Honorlock Support via LiveChat by clicking on the chat bubble at the bottom right of any Honorlock enabled assessment.

Images: If you’re going to include any images or diagrams within your assessment, please ensure that you have granted your students permission to those files.

Browser Guard: If students are required to access an application outside of their exam, such as Microsoft Word or Excel, Browser Guard will need to be disabled for your assessment.

Whitelisting URLs: If you would like to allow your students to reference a website during the exam, you have the ability to whitelist specific URLs. Please keep in mind, the more granular the website URL, the better control over what content is able to be accessed by your students.

Chrome: Chrome is the only browser that Honorlock supports. Please encourage your exam takers to use Chrome when taking all assessments.

Lastly, we released an update to our Chrome extension earlier this week. With this update, all students will be forced to upgrade to this version prior to starting their next exam. Please note that this process should happen automatically for your students. However, if any of your exam takers receive a message about their extension being out of date, they can simply uninstall and proceed to install the newest version of our extension directly from the Chrome Store.
