Call for Nominations: Student Success Committee
The Academics, Student Affairs & Research Division of the SC Technical College System is seeking nominations for members of the inaugural Student Success Committee. This committee will play a vital role in shaping how we define, measure, and support student success across our system. Members will contribute to developing a shared definition of student success, reviewing and interpreting data, identifying replicable best practices, and recommending system-wide training and professional development opportunities. 

Who are we looking for?

This committee of 7-9 people will have representation from the sixteen (16) technical colleges across South Carolina. Specifically, we are looking for the following:

1-2 Student Representatives

Faculty Representatives

Staff Representatives whose job responsibilities include overseeing an aspect of student success at their college.

Faculty and staff nominations should have the support of their CAO or CSSO.​

Goals & Roles for the Student Success Committee:

Assist with developing a definition of student success

Review data to assist with development of data reports to communicate the successes and opportunities for improving student success

Identify replicable best practices at the sixteen technical colleges

Assist with identifying opportunities for system-wide training and professional development as it relates to student success

Time Commitment:

Committee members will serve for 1 year with the opportunity to continue involvement, beginning September 2025 to August 2026.Committee meetings will take place 1-2 times a month, virtually, and at least 3 meetings will be held in person at the System Office in Columbia, SC.
Please submit your nominations by Friday, August 29th.
Selections will be made and announced in September. Email Emily Fox, foxe@sctechsystem.edu, with any questions. The nomination includes four open-ended questions. Please limit your responses to 175-200 words. Describe the nominee’s current role and how it supports student success. What experience does the nominee have in using data to inform or improve student success initiatives? Please share an example of a student success practice or college initiative the nominee has been involved in. How could the nominee contribute to identifying or supporting system-wide professional development related to student success?

A Teaching and Learning Tuesday (TLT) Professional-Development Opportunity

ABOUT THE WEBINAR   The number of college students seeking mental health support is rapidly trending upward. According to a national survey, 55% of community college students cited that emotional stress was their reason for considering withdrawing from college. Let’s take a closer look at the impact mental health conditions like anxiety, suicidal ideations, and depression have on the retention rate of students and the benefits of creating a culture of care during times of crisis.  
ABOUT THE PRESENTER   Crystal Edwards is the Student Wellness & Accessibility Manager at ATC. She oversees counseling, disability accommodations, and wellness initiatives including the ATC Wellness Center, Blessing Box, and community resources. Crystal is the Executive Director at Edgefield County Youth Empowerment Center, a nonprofit organization serving at-risk youth and their families in Edgefield County. She was selected as a 2023 SCALE Fellow with the Riley Institute at Furman University. Additionally, she serves as the Youth Development and Community Engagement liaison at Walk of Faith Tabernacle of Worship. She has over 10 years of experience in student success methodologies and community development. Crystal holds a Master of Education in Teaching & Learning and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Community Care and Counseling.

About the Presenter: George Abraham uses his 20+ years of experience in Information Technology to serve the students and community of Greenville County, South Carolina, as the Chief Information Officer of Greenville Technical College. He is excited for the transformative potential of technology, specifically to lift people’s lives and livelihood. Prior to his current position, George has led at Central Piedmont Community College at Charlotte, NC and at The Ohio State University at Columbus, OH. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with 2 subsequent Masters degrees, in Industrial Engineering and in Business.
