PTC’s 2024 Thriving Advising Virtual Event This Week!
Virtual PD Opportunity Provided by GateWay Counseling Services Tuesday November 5th, 2024 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Gateway Counseling Center is the Laurens County Alcohol and Drugs Commission. Part of Gateway’s role in Laurens County is being a community distributor for Narcan. This means that if you or if you know someone in need of Narcan, they can contact the agency and receive Narcan along with Fentanyl testing strips for free. The purpose of this training presentation is to educate on what opioids are, what are they used for, who is at risk, what is fentanyl and the lethal dosage. You will also learn or review how Narcan works, the steps to distribute Narcan in the event of an opioid related overdose. This training presentation will also give information on how to properly store or dispose of unused prescription medications and learn about the overdose detection mapping application program to track the number of opioid related overdoses in Lauren County.

Description: Join us for an engaging session designed to deepen your understanding of academic advising at PTC. We’ll explore how advising is structured and walk through key tools like the Dynamic Catalog and DegreeWorks. You’ll learn how to guide students through academic planning, assess their career goals, and navigate policies such as SAP plans and course sequencing. This session is designed to enhance your ability to support student success and streamline your advising process. Three session options are available.

PTC’s Annual Adjunct Expo PD Event – Saturday August 10th, 2024!
PTC’s Annual Adjunct Expo Professional Development Training Event will be held on Saturday August 10th, 2024 beginning at 8:00 am at the James Medford Family Event Center located at the Lex Walters Greenwood Campus.
A light breakfast will be provided. The event will take place from 8:00 am through 12:00 noon. No afternoon sessions will be provided.

Lesson delivery in a virtual setting is different than a face-to-face classroom for sharing content. However, the focus must be on engaging students, meaningful interactions between the students, and between the students and the instructor. At a time when substantive intervention and evidence of engagement are needed, AVID provides best practices that make it a win for students and a win for instructors!
